Product Description

At the end of the 19th century, France was fascinated by Japan. Auguste Rodin drew inspiration from Japanese woodblock prints and took a Japanese dancer named Hanako as a subject for a series of sculptures.

The exposition “Rodin : Le Rêve japonais” ran from May 16th to September 9th, 2007 at the Rodin Museum in Paris. Museum curator François Blanchetière spoke with Nathalie Tourret about the exposition. The original French transcript of the interview is 2,860 words. We translated the interview and included illustrations to create two 37-page booklets. Click here to see page layout. You are buying two pocket-sized books with a parallel text (French on the left, English on the right) and illustrations from the show. The Japanese prints reproduced in this transcript come from Rodin’s personal collection and were included in the exhibition.

Bonus:The tutorial recordings for "Rodin and the Dream of Japan."
Format: First we say the English (to get the idea or image into your mind), then we say the French, then there is a pause so you can repeat the French. This helps you link up the French with the image or idea. The speaker is David Tolman, publisher of Art French Magazine. These recordings are useful for getting familiar with the material. Can be used in the car or on a walk, anywhere you can listen to an mp3. 100 minutes of recordings, split up into 12 mp3 files.
