Product Description

Giverny is a small village in Normandy. Claude Monet spent the final years of his life there. His home and garden are Giverny's main tourist attraction.

We interviewed Gilbert Vahé, the head gardener.

These gardens today are essentially the same as in Monet’s time: there is very little mechanization, pesticide use is limited and the growing techniques are virtually identical. Some of the plants differ slightly; however, Mr. Vahé and his staff try to use the original varieties whenever possible.

Topics discussed include Monet's trip to Bordighera, which inspired his vision of the garden, the organization of the garden, Monet's introduction of new water lily species and how the Japanese bridge is situated so that early-morning light shines under it.

The original French transcript of the interview is 2,893 words. We translated the interview and included illustrations to create two 33-page booklets.
You are buying two pocket-sized books with a parallel text (French on the left, English on the right) and illustrations and a reading of the interview by native speakers.

NOTE:You can also get David's tutorial recordings to walk you through the booklets bit by bit. These are great for people who want to learn the material in their car or while on a walk, etc.
